      General

      What is Fred used for?

Fred is a fluid responsive email designer that empowers you to create beautiful, professional, and effective email designs with ease.

Is Fred an email service provider (ESP)?

No, Fred is not an ESP. Your email service provider is responsible for tasks such as processing, sending, managing lists, and handling unsubscribes. Fred focuses on the design aspect, helping you craft visually stunning emails.

Do you have a demo or test account so I can see Fred in action?

Absolutely! You can sign up for a free 14-day trial of Fred. This is a fully functional version of Fred, allowing you to create your own designs immediately and experience its capabilities firsthand.

Am I agreeing to a contract when I sign up for the free version of Fred?

No, you are under no obligation when you sign up for a free trial of Fred. It’s a risk-free way to explore the software and see if it’s the right fit for you.

Can I send a test email of my design?

Yes, to send yourself a preview of your email design(s), you will need to purchase a subscription for Fred. You can choose between monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, or annual subscriptions.

Do I need coding skills to use Fred?

No, you don’t need any coding skills to use Fred. It’s designed to be super easy and intuitive, allowing you to create mobile-friendly, fluid responsive email designs without writing a single line of code. And if you ever need help, our support team is here to assist you.

Can I import my existing HTML templates into Fred?

No, currently there is no way to convert third-party HTML coding into Fred. However, you can recreate your existing designs within Fred using its intuitive interface and features.

      Does Fred manage contact lists?

No, Fred does not manage contact/subscriber lists. This is typically handled by your email service provider (ESP).

What file formats can I export my email designs in?

Fred will export your design and send a preview email with a ZIP or TAR compressed file attached. This file includes:

      • HTML version of your email
      • Text version of your email
      • All image assets used in the email

The HTML version can include image URLs hosted by Fred, local (relative) URLs, or custom URLs, depending on your export preferences.

Does Fred integrate with my email marketing platform?

Fred does not require direct integration with third-party platforms. Instead, it provides standard HTML files that you can easily import into your email marketing platform of choice. This gives you flexibility and compatibility with a wide range of ESPs.

The preview email look's different in my email service provider's editor?

If the end result looks different from Fred’s preview, it’s likely because the HTML code was modified after leaving Fred. For instance, pasting the HTML directly into a third-party WYSIWYG editor can alter the code, potentially breaking the fluid responsive design.

To ensure the best results, it’s recommended to import the ZIP or TAR file directly using the third-party’s import feature, bypassing the WYSIWYG editor. If no import feature is available, paste the HTML into the text area field, not the editor.

Can I collaborate with my team on email designs in Fred?

Fred currently offers a feature called “shared connections.” This allows two or more users to share and synchronise connected accounts data, including templates, images, settings, and resources.

      Does Fred offer customer support?

Yes, Fred provides dedicated customer support directly through the app. Once logged in, simply click on the account icon and select the “Support Ticket” tab to request help, suggest new features, or provide feedback on your experience to help us make Fred even better!

      Where is Fred hosted?

Fred is hosted on origin data centres in the UK, providing a sustainable and auto-scaling secure infrastructure. The service is built to scale and support a high number of concurrent sessions through global data centres and CDN nodes for fast image delivery.

      Security

How do I access my Fred account?

You can access your Fred account in two ways:

      • Click the orange “Login/Sign-up” button in the top menu of the fred.london website.
      • Enter https://app.fred.guru directly into your browser’s address bar.

The login process requires the email address you used to sign up, your two-factor authentication PIN number, and the daily one-time password.

Why do I need Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to access my account?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Fred account beyond just a username and password.

It requires a second form of verification, such as a time-based one-time password (TOTP) generated by an app on your mobile device.

This significantly strengthens the security of your account and helps protect your valuable email designs and data from unauthorised access, even if your password is compromised.

Why does the password reset daily?

A new, secure random password is generated for your Fred® account the first time you login each day. This password is automatically emailed to you during the login process and expires at (23:59 UTC).

It’s only required for your first login of the day; subsequent logins will only require your 2FA PIN. This daily password change adds another layer of security to your account.

NOTE: Although the email is sent immediately, it may take a few minutes for it to arrive in your inbox. If you whitelist @fred.london domain with your email provider, this should prevent delays and avoid spam filtering.

I didn't receive my password, how do I reset it?

When logging in, enter the email address used to sign up for Fred and your 2FA PIN. You’ll then see a dialogue box:

      ALERT: Enter Your Password
Reuse the password you received earlier today or reset
IMPORTANT! Do not close the browser tab or click the back button, otherwise the password may fail.

If you haven’t received the email with the new password after a few minutes, click the “reset” link. This will trigger another email with a new password and return you to the start of the login process.

NOTE: Although emails are sent immediately, your email provider may delay delivery. It’s a good idea to whitelist the @fred.london domain to prevent delays.

I no longer have my Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), how do I reset it?

When you signed up for Fred and scanned the QR code to set up 2FA, you were asked to store the secret key. You can use this key to restore 2FA on your device, PC, or Mac.

If you’ve lost the secret key, email activations at fred.london and we’ll guide you through an identification process. If successful, we can reset your 2FA.

NOTE: Always keep your 2FA secret codes in a safe place or online vault. It’s also good practice to install a 2FA app on both your mobile phone and PC or Mac. This is much easier than going through the identification process!

What are Fred's session management policies?

Fred® prioritises the security of your account and data. To safeguard your information, we have strict session management policies in place. Your authenticated session will automatically expire if any of the following occur:

      • Your IP address changes.
      • You log into the same account from multiple browser tabs or different browsers.
      • You are inactive for more than two hours.
      • You lose your internet connection for more than six minutes.
      • You close your browser tab or window.
      • You click the browser’s refresh or back button.
      • You log out or restart your computer.

By understanding our session management policies, you’ll know what to expect and avoid confusion if you’re logged out unexpectedly.
